The main goal of the ITACA Consortium is the functional analysis of the genetic alterations responsible for familial cardiac arrhythmias. To this end, we will analyze the mechanisms by which the mutations found in patients diagnosed in the seven Hospitals of the consortium can affect cardiac electrical activity. The project coordinator is Dr. Eva Delpón from the Complutense University of Madrid.
The Consortium members are:
The Cardiology Departments of the following public University Hospitals of the Madrid region:

  • Hospital 12 de Octubre (H12O).
  • Hospital Clínico San Carlos (HCSC).
  • Hospital Universitario de Getafe (HUG).
  • Hospital Gregorio Marañón (HGM).
  • Hospital La Paz (HLP).
  • Hospital Puerta de Hierro (HPH).
  • Hospital Ramón y Cajal (HRyC).

A basic research Group:

  • Cellular Cardiac Electrophysiology laboratory at the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology. Complutense University of Madrid

All these Clinical and Basic Research groups also belong to CIBER (Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red), that is to, the Networked Biomedical Research Center, funded by the Carlos III National Institute of Health (Instituto de Salud Carlos III, ISCIII), whose main objective is to promote research of excellence in the areas of Biomedicine and Health Sciences that is carried out in the National Health System and in the Science and Technology System.
